Its was the various ships designs from FASA that got me hooked into Star Trek.

Ive been playing FASA-STRPG since it was released in 1982, my gaming life and my love for Star Trek has been enriched the friends I have to this day are all gamers from jr high, all of us are successful in our own rights and never lived in our parents basements.
Quite the reverse, gaming has opened many a door in my 45 years of living.
From improvisation, character acting, personal interaction, writing, accounting, and scientific research gaming has been good to me.

Hey Kurgar, you still in Orlando ?

(Out of Character)

Back in 1988 a little game group in Orlando FL started up a FASA RP based in the Klingon Empire. The ship class we used was an L-42B; the IKV Rac’Tov Mortma (later IKV Rac’Tov SIch when we got Okrand’s dictionary). We had a good Klingon campaign that met every Sunday. It was during this game a good friend of the GM out of New York came down an asked, “You guys wanna be in a Klingon Fan club?!?” “Sure” we replied…”What do we do?”

From that KLAW 4th Fleet was formed in late 1989; in my view they (FASA and John M. Ford) gave some good structure to our RP. Now 20 years later, (gee some of youse are lookin old) we need to mix more of the canon in and less of the fanon; however I will always tip my ridge to FASA for trying their damnedest to fill in the gaping black holes in the Star Trek Universe.

Now, I haven't run FASA STRPG since 1990... but I've run campaigns of it. 3, I think. Plus a convention pickup game (UAA Minicon), and a couple of standalone adventures.

My preference is DTrek and Prime Directive 1st Ed, but I still have both editions of FASA STRPG, and the TNG materials.

As for the 3 armed race: the Edoans. They are from the Animated Series. (As are the Caitians, and the Kzinti...)

Great group. I still enjoy the Fasa RPG. I even create stats for some of the kits I build:

I just found one of the old plastic starship game pieces w/ stand in a storage box from when my Wife and I got married.
I still have all my old Star Trek strategy board games, when I get the family room together I'll post pics.

The thing to do is find a place near where you live, where they're willing to let you set up a demo game, whether it be a pizza parlor or other restaurant, a comic/hobby shop, or a convention site. It doesn't matter where, just get permission to do it on a day you have free, and go set up. Players will come to you. Once they see how easy it is to play with a pre-done character, then present them with the idea of starting regular game sessions.

That's what I've done with various RPGs, and it's worked out incredibly well, even for the older games that you typically can't find being sold on the store shelves.

I still have most of the original books for the FASA system. Not many people want to play anymore, but it used to be a lot of fun.

T'Bree I'm in the same boat and I own the game, but could never get anyone to play it with me, either. A friend of mine bought it for thinking it was a ST Trivia game.

There's also another way that's a bit more simple. It doesn't seem as cool as the calculator, however, because the calculator works by hour. Simply arrange the date like this: yymm.dd. For example, today is 24 November 2009, or 0911.24. This reall...

This has always been a lot of fun for me! I grew up with Star Wars and was converted to Star Trek thanks to JJ Abrams. I have friends who like Star Wars and, denying any interest in Trek, ask me many questions about my new fav. Trust me, they are ...

The alternate realities of Trek really capture this idea quite well. We know that in the primary universe, we welcomed the Vulcans with a handshake regardless of the fact that we feared them. The Mirror Universe branches off of the primary in the ...

This really depends on what series you focus on. I'd noticed that in TOS, gold was for command; blue was for science; and red was for engineering. In TNG, red was command; blue was for science, and gold was for engineering and tactical. I think th...

I think that one should form a series based on the alternate realities. It's difficult to imagine different changes in a timeline, and if one were to focus a series on perhaps the Mirror Universe or even the new reality created in Star Trek XI, it...

I've been paying a lot of attention to this game as well, which isn't a normal occupation. I've been working to get a few friends together so that we could all get the game (and possibly lifetime subscriptions) and form our own "mini-fleet." I'd ...

This was a really difficult question for me...I've had friends tell me that I act like Scotty, then they'd say that I'm like a Vulcan, then Borg, then they'd throw me for a loop and say that I'm like an Andorian. After a while, I decided that the ...

As they went over in the article, the idea of faster-than-light speeds are physically impossible. Energy would be transfered into mass, resulting in an infinitely massive object. Personally, I think that there is a couple of smaller things that ne...
