My favorite scene always was the introduction of the refit Enterprise. Sometimes I just pop the DVD in just to watch that. It's hard to remember after all these years that that moment was the first time we ever saw any new Star Trek ship. Ever. Pa...

Thanks for keeping us mindful of this big upcoming Trek anniversary, Mike! I remember watching the movie after all the huge anticipation...and I couldn't figure it out! My younger sister had to hold my hand (figuratively) through the entire thing...

Monday, December 7, will be the 30th anniversary of the premiere of ST:TMP. I was just a snot-nosed little punk of 13 at the time, but I can remember checking off days on the calendar, and practically peeing my pants all day at school on the 7th. ...

Mike, you put these comments up months ago--I'm just catching up. It is exciting to play the changes on Trek plot potentials--reviving great characters from fave episodes being one great hook. Another take I am attracted to is to take the story in...

About Me:
Greetings, Gentlebeings,
What can I say? I was born in 1966--the same year that TOS premiered--so it was innevitable that I'd be a trekkie! TOS will always be a classic, but I'm especially drawn to DS9 because it, like me, is considered the weird kid of the family! I'm here because I'm desperate for any contact with other Trek fans, or fans of SF in general. I also hope to maybe meet a nice Orion Slave Girl or Borg Babe. BTW: I'm a vent-dependent quadraplegic with SMA. No big deal.

I've added the cover to my latest book, Suka: A Paul Murdock Novel. All are available at authorhouse.com

Terminator...Salvation?

Supposedly, Christian Bale initially turned down the role of John Connor in Terminator: Salvation, then said, "Write a story that could be performed on stage with no special effects, and I'll do it."

It must've been the money.

Talk about a disappointment! I've wanted to see that post-nuke future since T1 came out in '84, but instead of guerilla warfare in the bombed-out ruins of nighttime LA, we get car chases in the desert that were done--and done better--30 years ago in Mad Max. Here's the s… Continue

Lucky Hat Story

Interesting story behind the hat I'm wearing in my new avatar.

Back in '97, I was at a con where the GoH was Jeremy Bulloch, the British actor best known for playing Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. He and I were talking in the lobby one day when Mom asked if she could take a pic. "Sure!" Jeremy said, then gave me a dirty look and added, "Even if you are wearing that damn Babylon 5 hat." Just as Mom snaps the Polaroid, Jeremy flips up the bill of my cap so that I loo… Continue

TREK XI: THE VERDICT

Most of the TOS cast are either elderly or dead, and the folks from TNG are getting pretty long in the tooth, as well. Neither VOY or ENT generated the ratings to warrant a big budget movie, and although DS9 had--IMHO--some of the best writing in the franchise, Paramount seems to treat it like the bastard child that nobody talks about.

So what's left to do? You rewrite history!

The idea of one event having the power to change history has been a troupe of science fiction, including Trek, for de… Continue

Hillside Cinema, Delafield, WI, USA

I'll be hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Let me warn all of you in advance: my review--which I hope to post tomorrow--will contain spoilers. There's no way I can talk about a movie without...well, talking about it! So if you don't make it to the theatre tomorrow, just skip my blog until you do. I've been avoiding reviews all week!

Time for honesty, shipmates. This could be Trek's last gasp. Unless the bean co… Continue

Wolverine: This Explains The Attitude

Even though Wolverine has always been my favorite X-Man, going back to the comics, I wasn't sure if he'd be able to carry a movie on his own. His interaction/head-butting with Charles Xavier and Cyclops were the most interesting character moments of the first 3 X-Men movies. This latest addition to the franchise puts those doubts to rest.

Or should I say, stabs an adantium spike through their hearts?

Like Batman Begins and the first Punisher (do NOT watch the sequel!), this origin story gets i… Continue

Hi, Mike!
You've been writing for 30 years? Whoa. No wonder your stuff is so engaging. You've been practicing LOL!!!
For a couple of years-late eighties, early nineties-- I produced and edited a fanzine called "Agonizer" to showcase the art, writing and adventures of the Klingons I was meeting in the clubs I had joined. I'm really proud of it--felt like it helped build the fandom, before everything went computer. It was also the foundation of friendships of a quality i had not met in any other side of my life.
Part of what blew me away was the quality of much of the work. Some of the contributors were semi-pros, but others were just plain gifted but not yet recognized. (And others weren't all that skilled, but had something to say, so there was room for that too in the mag the way I conceived it. It was about fun, something we all did for love not money. Not a refereed journal, that's for sure!)
But you are just plain a hot writer:-)

Hi, Mike!
E Z Keys--I went and read up on that. Sounds like a helpful app. One day, the software will be finishing our sentences. I just hope it finishes them the way we were actually intending!
It does make me appreciate EVERY word you write:-)

Yeah, EFLA was not a shining moment in cinematic history and a lot of the stuff that was made for it barely got seen.

Hey Mike thanks for stopping by! Yeah, that guy is a few tribbles short of a bin. Theres not much money in propmaking unfortunately but if you get in to screenwriting theres some money there. You can check out my IMDB page (search for Don Gaffney).

Yes, I've been monitoring the shops here in my town for about two months, and in the beginning I thought they made some kind of type-o with the release date, but lucky me it was not!
Saw it yesterday and it was just as I remembered it -awesome!
