Yes, our ship was renamed during a major refit after the Doctor's home planet because of his involvement and assistance to the previous Commanding Officer, Captain Thomas W. Hunter, when the ship, known as the U.S.S. Guardian, was on a mission involving the Shadow Mages and their attempt to change the present timeline. His assistance saved both the Guardian and the lives of thousands of Federation citizens. As for being alive, I can only say, what would the Doctor be if it wasn't for you? It would be like having Sherlock Holmes without Professor James Moriarty, can't have one without the other.
