T'Rene, wow:-)
Thank you for your amplification from your own experience about these women pilots of WWII! (Would you like me to try sending you the Website address for the piece to see if that comes in any better than the way I put it in the blog? I am so khestn computer doofy...)
You've met some of thee women. That will keep memory alive:-) Do you have the name of the woman who died at last year's event, or the name of her book? I would love to get hold of it. And I can sense (even without being part Betazoid) your sadness at the lousy treatment some of them received at the hands of a jerk who had no respect.
I have a friend in the Klingon fandom who has made quite a study of Soviet Women who flew during that war--I believe, some of them in combat. I've got to delve in on that again.
In the meantime, thank you for YOUR service and your gracious contact here!

This video didn't work on my computer. But I feel strongly about the women pilots of WWII whose contributions have been way under recognized! I met a couple of them at the EAA Air Venture show at Oshkosh Wisconsin. The show is each year at the end of July and my husband and I work there for a week with the Coast Guard Auxiliary. There are very few of these ladies left and one of them died at the show last year when she came there to promote a book she had written. I cry everytime I think about this one incident where women pilots wearing their uniform were refused boarding on a train because they were wearing pants and decent women didn't wear pants according to the guy who wouldn't let them on the train. These brave pilots have since gotten some recognition but it is far too little and far too late.
