January 25: On This Day In Science Fiction History

On Syfy's Defiance, she runs a brothel.  Pardon my obvious sexism, but I'm guessing it's a very successful brothel.  Mia Kirshner cut her acting teeth in a whole slew of mostly forgettable minor roles, but it was her wicked transformation as the terrorist-for-hire in Fox TV's 24 program that propelled her career into new heights.  With her plum appearance as a regular on Defiance, she's finally reaping the benefits of her perseverance.  Ms. Kirschner was born on this day back in 1975.

I guess if you're really only going to appear in one major science fiction motion picture throughout your acting career, then you may as well make it a great one.  That's exactly what Leigh Taylor-Young did, appearing alongside genre veteran Charlton Heston in 1973's epic Soylent Green.  Not a bad choice, eh?  Taylor-Young was born on this day in 1945.

For most of us, this will be little more than another face and another name you don't know ... and that's a crying shame because Geoff Johns has been behind some of the most incredible comic book stories of the last decade, if not longer.  His 10-year run on DC's seminal Green Lantern books has been nothing short of Epic (with a capital E, you notice), and I can't encourage those of you who love great space opera to take the time to read his stuff with the various Lantern Corps.  It's jaw-droppingly-awesome.  Johns was born on this day in 1973.

On this day in 1964, Doctor Who aired "The Ordeal."  Here's the summary from IMDB.com:

"While Ian, Barbara and their Thal friends try to find a way into the Dalek City through the mountains, the Doctor, Susan and Alydon attempt to make their own way in."

On this day in 1992, Star Trek: The Next Generation aired "Hero Worship" as part of its fifth season.  Here's the episode summary from IMDB.com:

"Data rescues a boy, and in a way to repress his own pain, the boy begins to mimic Data's personality."

As always, live long and prosper!

"Unfortunately I am not aware of any on that matter. You might try Memory Alpha - The Star Trek Wiki or The Star Fleet Database. Question, when you say you are starting a story does this mean you are writing a book or that you are going to run a sim?"
